BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (3/3/14) — The Warren County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an injury accident, where a vehicle ran off the roadway and into a sinkhole, at around 12:22 a.m. March 2 in the 5300 block of Plano Road.
While en route, it was determined that there were two vehicles involved: a white Honda Accord, driven by Mason Runner, 18, of Bowling Green and a white Ford F150, driven by Kyle Secula, 23, of Bowling Green.
Both vehicles were traveling south on Plano Road together. One passenger stated that the two vehicles were driving erratically with one another. When the vehicles came upon a curve to the left each vehicle went off the right shoulder of the roadway. When the Honda Accord went off the right shoulder of the roadway it was unable to correct and continued to travel off road striking two utility poles.
Secula’s vehicle also traveled off the roadway in the same place but was able to pull back onto the roadway. It appears that Secula overcorrected, crossed over the roadway, and went off the left shoulder of the roadway. Once off the roadway, he traveled across a grassy area and spun to its left resulting in the vehicle to roll sideways one complete turn before coming to a complete stop on its wheels.
During the roll, one juvenile passenger was thrown from the vehicle. It was later discovered that the passenger that was ejected was most likely not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. One opened alcoholic beverage was found in the passenger compartment of the vehicle. Alcohol was present, however, it does not appear that alcohol was a factor in the cause of the collision. At no point did the vehicles come into contact with one another.
Kyle Secula, was cited for possession of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle. Two juvenile passengers in the Honda were transported by EMS to the Medical Center of Bowling Green. The juvenile that was ejected was later transported to Vanderbilt Hospital. One juvenile passenger from the Ford was also transported by EMS to the Medical Center of Bowling Green. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
