BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (4/21/14) — Steve Marcum, President of the Warren County Public Library Board of Trustees, was awarded the James Gugeler Outstanding Library Trustee Award.
The award was presented at the Kentucky Public Library Association Annual Conference held in Bowling Green April 10.
The Kentucky Library Association states that the purpose of the award is to recognize the contributions of an individual who is currently serving as a trustee for a Kentucky public library. This award is named in honor of James Gugeler. Mr. Gugeler was appointed to the Jessamine County Public Library’s board in 1990 and served until his passing in 2007 at which point he was the vice-president.
“Steve joined the board in 2007, when we were still the Bowling Green Public Library,” says WCPL Director Lisa Rice. “His leadership has allowed our library to purchase, renovate and open our Bob Kirby Branch in 2008 and the 13,000 sq. ft. expansion just two months ago. He served as President as we purchased land and built our Smiths Grove Branch Library in 2012. He has helped us achieve stability in funding and helped our system grow in space, circulation and community presence.”
“Steve has been an active advocate for not only our library, but libraries across the Commonwealth.” says Rice. “He has served as the Chair of the Trustee Round Table and promoted trustee certification. He has traveled to Washington, DC to advocate for libraries. Last year our library achieved the Exemplary rating for Public libraries. It is because we have an exemplary leader in Steve Marcum.”Steve Marcum is the Executive Vice President and CFO of Citizens First Bank.
