BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (4/26/14) - Warren County Sheriff's Office K-9 deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Interstate 65 at the 39 mile marker around 8:30 p.m. April 25. Upon stop, the deputy detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
Through investigation, the driver and the passenger both admitted to having consumed marijuana in the vehicle. Upon searching the occupants, a large quantity of cash was located on the passenger. Once the search was initiated, the passenger began to resist the deputy and a physical altercation ensued. The suspect was brought under control and placed under arrest.
The suspect and the deputy were both treated and released from the Medical Center in Bowling Green. A sufficient quantity of marijuana and drug paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking was located in the vehicle and on the passenger. There was also a baby bottle of codeine located inside the vehicle. Upon further search, there was another large quantity of cash located in the trunk of the vehicle.
Driver Reginald Williams, 24, of Chicago, was charged with possession of controlled substance first degree, trafficking in marijuana less than eight ounces, possession of drug paraphernalia, and prescription controlled substance not in original container.
Michael Groves, 27, of Chicago, was charged with possession of controlled substance first degree, trafficking in marijuana less than eight ounces, possession of drug paraphernalia, controlled substance not in original container, assault third degree (police officer), promoting contraband first degree, and possession of controlled substance third degree.
