WKU to Recognize First Graduates of Doctor of Nursing Practice

wku red blackBOWLING GREEN, Ky. (5/5/14) – The first graduates of WKU’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program will be recognized during Commencement activities May 16.

The first cohort of nine students will complete their degrees this spring or summer.

“WKU School of Nursing is honored to celebrate with our first graduates from the Doctor of Nursing Practice program,” said Dr. Mary Bennett, director of the School of Nursing. “These graduates will have significant impact on nursing education, administration and advanced nursing practice over the course of their careers. We look forward to seeing more students of this caliber graduate from the DNP program to meet the expanding need for nurses with doctoral level education in Kentucky and the surrounding region.”

The DNP program admitted its first students in August 2011 and has 51 students enrolled. In November 2013, the program received a five-year accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

The program is delivered in a blended format with a majority of classes held on Saturdays. All of the 2014 graduates are employed as nurse practitioners or nurse administrators.

Graduates will be hooded during a ceremony at 2:30 p.m. May 16 at the Medical Center-WKU Health Sciences Complex in downtown Bowling Green and will participate in the graduate Commencement at 5 p.m. May 16 at Diddle Arena.
