OWENSBORO, Ky. (6/24/13) – A physical therapy office specializing in employee-specific testing for local businesses and other forms of therapy welcomed the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce and members of the community to its new, larger location on Frederica Street as the Chamber conducted a ribbon cutting for the facility.

KORT Physical Therapy Owensboro moved from its previous location on April 19 after three years in Owensboro. KORT, which stands for Kentucky Orthopedic Rehab Team, has approximately 40 clinics across the Commonwealth of Kentucky and has been in business more than 30 years, according to Clinic Director Jennifer Murphy Byrne.

Byrne said many local therapy-based clinics work with hospitals and doctors to get patient referrals, but KORT provides what she called a “direct access” approach for patients who want to skip the step of getting a referral.

“People can come here without a physician order,” she said. “The majority of insurance companies out there allow that. We’ve grown through word-of-mouth.”

Byrne said sometimes skipping the step of getting a doctor’s referral can be crucial to a speedier recovery, depending on the issue being treated. Most people require between six to eight visits over as much as a three-month time span.

In addition to traditional physical therapy services and the industrial employee-designed testing services offered, KORT also provides manual therapy as well as sports medicine services. The facility employs an athletic trainer who oversees that aspect of the business.

KORT currently employs four full-time and four part-time staff members, and sees about 20 patients each day. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
