Outdoorsmen from Around the Nation Attend 25th Annual Deer Classic

DeerclassmainGREENVILLE, Ky. (8/25/13) – The Kentucky Deer Classic in Greenville did not disappoint as vendors offered samples, games, exhibitions and a chance to see the world's largest trophy buck.

Hundreds attended the 25th annual event Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Muhlenberg County Agriculture and Convention Center on Kentucky 189.

"The turnout has been good," said Mike Mercer, of First Security Bank as he manned a Central City Lions Club booth. "It's about the same as previous years. There were a lot of people here earlier and they come and go all day."

Exhibits included Harold Knight with Knight & Hale, a company that created the original Fightn' Purr turkey call and the inhale-exhale operation of the EZ Grunter Plus grunt call.

Don Bell, founder of Code Blue Deer Scents, made an appearance.

Local sportsmen Scott Graham and Doctor Doug of Kentucky Redneck Outdoors offered information about their new group with plans to travel around the state on adventures, with videos of each trek.

Seminars, the Kentucky Wall of Fame, paintball and BB gun shoot activities and a 3-D archery shot were some of the exhibits and attractions.

An Antler Dogs seminar and exhibit featuring Roger Sigler was held in the second floor of the Ag Center.

A new event for the year, a "Duck Dynasty" lookalike contest, also was held on the second floor and Joey Steele of Uncle Lee's said the popularity of the contest would ensure that it would be brought back again next year.

Winning first place and a $100 Greater Muhlenberg Chamber of Commerce gift certificate for the contest was Robert Neal Sigers; second place went to Russell Brown and third to Billy Murphy. Sigers took first as a John Godwin while Brown and Murphy both cloned Jase Robinson.

Winners of the Wall of Fame "People's Choice Awards" Big Buck Contest were David Lanham of Caldwell County with first place, Tim Flener of Muhlenberg County with second place, and Jeff Mitcheell, also of Muhlenberg County with third place.In the Youth Contest, first place was taken by Landon Harper and second place by Nicholas Lofland. Both of these youths were from Muhlenberg County as well. The Wall of Fame booth was hosted by Randy Adams, AKA Big Country.
