Miss Hoss' Sweet Shop Offers Home Town Appeal

From homemade fudge, cakes and pies, to catering for bridal shower delicacies and even a chicken salad sandwich for lunch, the overwhelming aroma of fresh-baked goodies of every kind are here.

You can tell owner Linda Vaughn Taylor has worked hard to bring a little taste of Mayberry to Greenville.

"This is my original idea, and people seem to think it worked. I wanted to create an atmosphere of an old-fashioned sweet shop from days gone by," Taylor said. “I’m definitely a down-home country girl.”

But Taylor’s original dream of the sweet life has had its ups and downs.

She was happily married when her late husband, whose nickname was Big Hoss, had a fatal accident near their home at Kentucky Lake.

That’s when Taylor and her children moved back home to Muhlenberg County, where she grew up.

"Muhlenberg County will always be home. After my husband’s accident, I lost interest in most everything including the sweet shop for quite a while. But God gave me an opportunity. He found me the perfect location in downtown Greenvile. I'm now married to Rick Taylor of Owensboro. I have my store in Mayberry and God even gave me a Mayberry last name … Taylor," she said.

Now, Taylor says, business is expanding, and you don’t even have to stop by Miss Hoss’ Sweet Shop to enjoy her homemade goodies.

“We’ve expanded, and now offer our fudge at stores all over the county, including Uncle Lee’s, Always Open, Phillip’s Crossroads in South Carrollton, The Old Primitive Store in Dunmor and the Muhlenberg Community Hospital gift shop,” Taylor said.

Linda Vaughn Taylor may not have reached Famous Amos status yet, but to a lot of people in Muhlenberg County who have tasted her products, she may well be on her way.
