From Ukraine to Nelson Creek, World Class Violinist to Perform

violinist

MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (7/29/14) — It's a long, long way from the Ukraine to Muhlenberg County, Ky., yet premier violinist Oksana Pavilionis, who now teaches and performs music in Bentonville, Ark., will bring her enormous talent to Nelson Creek at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2.

Billed as Oksana, the accomplished violinist will perform at the Nelson Creek Community Center following the town's neighborhood watch meeting.

According to Diana McKinney, a member of the Nelson Creek Neighborhood Watch program, this unlikely concert came about when McKinney lived in Bentonville.

"My sister and I both lived in Bentonville, and that was when we met Oksana," McKinney said. "She is an amazing violinist, who grew up in Ukraine, and has performed in Russia, Poland, and throughout Europe, as well as the US. She came to live in the US about 10 years ago, and is now a member of the Fort Smith Symphony Orchestra. She has also taught more than 200 students. She can perform the classics, but has also absorbed the 'fiddle playing' of the Ozarks and Bluegrass music. So, this show will feature quite a variety of music. We decided it would be good to let everyone enjoy the music of Oksana, and this is the perfect way."

The Nelson Creek Community Center is located just off US 62 East. Take US 62 to Kentucky 1379, and the community center is approximately one mile on the left.

The performance and a potluck dinner will be served at 6 p.m. following the neighborhood watch meeting at 5 p.m.
