GREENVILLE, Ky. (4/8/13) – The Greenville Tourism Commission is pleased to announce that Saturdays on the Square is back in 2013 for its 5th anniversary season.
This year’s concert series is once again chocked full of amazing talent. To commemorate this special milestone the GTC will be bringing back some of the “best bands from the first 4 seasons” plus welcoming 3 new bands to the Saturdays on the Square stage. This year’s series will be on Saturdays in July and August for a total 8 weeks of musical fun!
As always the events are being hosted by the Greenville Tourism Commission and are FREE to the public. In 2013 all concerts will be shifted from the Veterans Plaza stage to the front of the courthouse on the veranda formed by the steps. “This was something we experimented with during the 2012 season that received an overwhelmingly positive response from attendees. The raised platform offers better views and sound quality while providing a stunning back drop for the bands,” said GTC Director Beth Newman.
To accommodate the new setting Main Street will be closing at 5PM each Saturday to allow patrons ample time to set up their chairs before each concert. Concert goers should once again bring their lawn chairs and friends and plan to have a great time as they listen to free live music, kick up their heels, visit with old friends, make new ones, enjoy some good eats and just basically have a fun Saturday on the Square!
The dates and performers include:
-Seven Bridges: The Ultimate Eagles Tribute
-The Nashville Blue Tones
-Antique Car Show
-The NashVegas All-Stars
-Karen Peck & New River
-Mudd River Union
-The Kentucky Headhunters
The 2013 series will kick-off with an encore performance by Seven Bridges: The Ultimate Eagles Tribute Experience. This band was chosen as a “Best from the First 4 Years” for this 5th anniversary season given their popularity from last year’s line-up. With their stunningly accurate tribute to the music of the Eagles, this show will cover their greatest hits and special tributes to Don Henley and Joe Walsh. This show will be the perfect blend of songs to captivate all levels of Eagles’ devotees!
As an “oldies night” to compliment the Twi-Light Drive In Antique Car Show, the GTC is pleased to welcome a new band to Greenville, The Nashville Blue Tones. This group is one of Nashville Tennessee’s premier dance and variety bands. The Nashville Blue Tones are a nationally acclaimed ensemble that specializes in many genres, but for this event, they have customized a very special 50s/60s song list. Band members have performed with or recorded with famous musicians such as Roy Orbison, Barbara & Louise Mandrell, George Jones, Chet Atkins, Shania Twain and more!
Break out the dancing shoes on July 20th for the NashVegas All-Stars! This group, one of the most popular bands to perform on the Saturdays on the Square stage, is composed of 5 professional musicians that never disappoint. Their smooth sound and impeccable song selection keep the dance floor packed whenever they visit Greenville and have earned their spot as a “Best from the First 4 Years”.
Two incredible gospel groups will be returning as “Bests from the First 4 Years” and will be sharing the stage for a twice as nice event. Karen Peck & New River have been partnered with The Isaacs for a special 5th anniversary performance. Karen Peck & New River, a 3-time Grammy Award nominee and 2-time GMA Dove Award winning Southern Gospel group, stole the hearts of the Saturdays on the Square audience in 2010. They are returning with songs featured from their 2012 GMA Dove Award Southern Gospel Album of the Year, “Reach Out.” The Isaacs will be returning to the stage again in 2013 featuring their unique style that blends tight, family harmony with contemporary acoustic instrumentation that appeals to a variety of audiences. The Isaacs are a GMA Dove Award winning band. They are also a Grammy and International Bluegrass Music Association Award nominated band.
As a “Best of the First 4 Years” band, Muhlenberg County’s own Mudd River Union, will be returning to the Saturdays on the Square stage. Following their win at Owensboro’s prestigious Big O Music Fest Battle of the Bands in 2011, MRU is continuing to grow in popularity across the region. They have also performed the National Anthem at the Tennessee State Capitol and performed at the Grand Opening of Opry Mills mall in Nashville, TN.
Greenville will also be welcoming as a “Best of the First 4 Years” group the unforgettable Kentucky Headhunters! The Kentucky Headhunters were featured as the 2010 season’s grand finale band and brought their brand of rocking country to please one of the largest crowds ever in a Saturdays on the Square series! These Kentucky natives have won three Country Music Association Awards, an Academy of Country Music Award and a Grammy.
To close out the series the GTC is proud to introduce two new groups to the Greenville scene. Hailing from Cincinnati, OH and featuring Muhlenberg County native Laurie Heltsley is the country band Jamison Road. Since 2010 this trio has moved from store front to front and center! Amid a sea of modern pop-country they are an unexpected and unconventional source of country that rocks. Their debut CD, released in May 2012, has been met with enthusiasm from fans and praise from Nashville insiders.
Greenville will welcome the band A-Town A-List from Atlanta, GA to close out the special 5th anniversary season! A-Town A-List is a band that specializes in pop music from the last 50 years! The group is a collection of incredible, young performers who have toured the world, sharing the stage with Bruce Springsteen, The Dave Matthews Band, Stevie Wonder, The Black Eyed Peas, The Killers and Jennifer Lopez just to name a few! These performers combine to create a fresh approach to pop music that will certainly create an unforgettable end to summer and the 2013 Saturdays on the Square season.
To allow concert goers the opportunity to dine at one of Greenville’s restaurants and shop in one of the town’s specialty shops or antique stores, each concert will begin at 8 pm. Given July 27th features two bands, that event will begin earlier at 7PM. Parking will be available throughout downtown and food vendors will be positioned on the square at each of the concerts. Several downtown merchants will offer extended hours to accommodate concert shoppers and many will be offering concert specials.
Given the concerts are hosted outdoors, Mother Nature always plays a factor. Every effort will be made to have the concerts, however if the weather creates an unsafe environment for attendees a concert could be cancelled. There is not a “rain location”. Please remember that as long as weather is clear and safe at 8:00 pm in downtown Greenville the show will go on.
