WEBSTER COUNTY, KY (12/15/11) – Two sisters made their way through Webster County on horseback last week as they continued on their eight-month long journey to Houston, TX, and back as part of an effort to help raise money for the construction of water wells in Haiti.
Brandy Nelsey and Ashley Nelsey set out from their home on Sept. 11 after months of planning and training for the ride south. Each has her own horse, as well as three pack horses and a dog that scouts the path ahead and behind. Along the way, they find places to stop and rest after riding about 15 to 20 miles.
On Wednesday, the women passed through Providence on their way to Princeton. They said they were riding a little further for the next few days to try to make up some lost time.
As they travel, they said they talk to people about why they are making the trip, and that they are accepting pledges of support through their website, http://horsebackforhaiti.jimdo.com/, to help with the cause. Their goal is $15,000 for a total of three new wells.
Last Tuesday night, the Nelseys stayed at the home of Tana Hudson before continuing on their way to Princeton.
