WEBSTER COUNTY, KY (1/4/12) – Ownership of Shemwell Health Care in Providence may have changed hands, but the familiar faces running the facility remain the same.
Shelly Laneve, who started working at Shemwell when she was in high school and continued her employment there as she worked toward obtaining a nursing degree, purchased the facility with her husband, Randy.
“I wanted it to stay local and continue to run the way the Coles and Chandlers had (run it),” she said of previous owners Dr. Wayne Cole and Billie Cole, and Tommy and Bonita Chandler. “I didn’t want the level of care to drop.”
Laneve had served as the facility’s director of nursing over the last decade before securing a nursing home administrator license in 2011 that allowed her the opportunity to manage Shemwell. She said Billie Cole, who served in that capacity prior to her decision to retire last year, still works closely with the facility. She said Dr. Cole also continues to see patients at Shemwell.
“He and Billie still have an active role in the nursing home,” Laneve said.
Shemwell Health Care is a 22-bed capacity facility, and Laneve said the current capacity “stays close to that most months.”
Laneve graduated from Madisonville Community College in 1996 before continuing her nursing education at Murray State University.
