RELAY LIFE 300MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (5/7/13) – With Summer quickly approaching, the numbers of great reasons to get outdoors are increasing here in Muhlenberg County. This weekend brings several events to the county, beginning with Friday night's American Cancer Society "Relay for Life", held at the Muhlenberg Ag and Convention Center from 5pm to 6am Saturday.

Relay for Life is an event that gives communities the opportunity to celebrate the lives of friends and loved ones who have battled cancer, while at the same time taking a personal stand against Cancer and helping to find a cure. During the annual event, participants camp out at the Ag Center and a member from each team continually walks on the relay track. Grand Marshals (cancer survivors) are honored during the annual Survivors Walk.
 
According to the American Cancer Society, "Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length."
 
The evening will be filled with honoring and remembering those touched by cancer, from survivors and caregivers to those who lost the fight to the disease. All cancer survivors may register to receive a free t-shirt on the day of the event. Survivor registration will be from 5:30-6:30 PM.
 
A Luminary Ceremony will take place from 6-7 PM, to honor loved ones who have passed away or are fighting cancer.
 
There are activities and games planned to make the event fun for the entire family, throughout the evening and into the morning hours.
 
First Kentucky Bank has stepped forward to do their part in fighting for a cure with plans for an auction to help raise funds. Many local businesses have already stepped up with hundreds of dollars in prizes donated to the bank for use in the auction.

Sarah Hill, a loan officer at the bank's Greenville location, is the bank's coordinator for the auction. “We're taking donations of goods and services from local businesses and putting those together in three separate baskets." Hill said. "We'll have a drawing for each basket this weekend. Winners will be notified by phone. In order to enter just donate a dollar per entry. Six entries are just 5 dollars."

Hill added she has been overwhelmed by the huge number of donations from many local businesses, and many more are still pouring in. "We are still taking donations, and running that through the week of the relay. We'll announce the winner either Thursday or Friday."
