MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (5/22/13) – When the second graduating class of Graham High School graduated in 1938, they formed the group, Graham Alumni Association. This group of individuals has been meeting for the last 75 years.
The Graham Alumni Association will be having a special event this Saturday, May 25, 2013 to celebrate their 75th meeting anniversary and invite all those who graduated from Graham High School to attend.
This meeting will be held at the local restaurant, “Short’s,” located at 4463 State Route 175 S. (Highway 62). The social hour will began at 5:00 p.m. with a meeting. Dinner will start at 6:00 p.m. The cost is $20.00 per person and can be paid at the door.
There will also be entertainment that night by Alison Underwood and David Baxter. They will be performing a piece from, “The Magic in Muhlenberg County,” by Jim Rodgers, Ph.D. - Playwright and Johnie Dean, Ph.D. – Composer.
A huge part of this play is about the Coal Companies and Coal Company towns. Graham was one of those towns and its’ high school was built by the coal company. Named after William Graham Duncan, a Scottish-American who owned the W.G. Duncan Coal Company, this play tells the story of how important the coal mining industries were and the building of towns and schools.
