WASHINGTON, D.C. (5/22/13) – United States Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced that on May 21, 2013, Gustavo Armenta Trujillo, age 42, of Lincoln, was sentenced to 15 years and eight months (188 months) in prison for possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of a mixture or substance containing methamphetamine and to a concurrent term of six years and five months (77 months) for illegal reentry after removal for an aggravated felony. Following the prison term, Armenta will serve four years on supervised release. He was also ordered to forfeit $697 to the United States.
On January 28, 2013, Armenta was contacted by officers of the Lincoln Police Department, and his person and vehicle were searched. Officers found a total of eight plastic bags of varying sizes containing a total of more than 50 grams (approximately 1 ¾ ounces) of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine along with $697 in cash. On January 29, 2013, Armenta was contacted at the Lancaster County Jail by an agent of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. At that time, Armenta admitted he had a previous felony drug conviction, that he had been removed from the United States, and that he had re-entered the United States without obtaining permission. A check of court records showed that Armenta was convicted in Lancaster County District Court of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and on March 4, 2010, he was sentenced to one to three years in prison. Following completion of that prison sentence, Armenta was removed from the United States in January 2012.
The matter was investigated by the Lincoln/Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force, which includes officers of the Lincoln Police Department, the Lancaster County Sheriff?s Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Police Department, and by the United States Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
