MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (6/18/13) – Much like last weekend's "Take a Kid Fishing" event at Luzerne Lake, Mike Kirby's 5th Annual "Fishing with a Kid" day at Lake Malone State Park brought together generations of families who love passing on the tradition of enjoying the great outdoors of Western Kentucky.

The all-day "Fishing with Kids" event brought out bumper to bumper cars, and trucks pulling hundreds of boat trailers...backed up as far as the eye could see.

Eight-year-old Zeb Johnson, hoped his years of experience would help him win that Jon Boat given away at the end of the day. "We got him started early," Zeb's father and mother, Tim and Lisa Johnson said. "The earlier you can start getting kids outdoors, the better." They agreed.

Dwayne and Jamie Carver, of Greenville, brought along son Todd Carver, for a day of fishing and fun. Todd said he caught a "crappie and a bluegill." Mr. Carver added, "This is a good cause. A lot of families come out not just to fish, but it's nice to see them just sitting on the bank, enjoying the day. It's really a good day."

Lyle Renfrow and Abigail Turley drove all the way from Bowling Green to enjoy the day at Lake Malone. Lyle said it was worth the drive since they caught a "1.79 lb. catfish. That's not bad at all". Renfrow said, summing up the day in five words that say it all. "It's all about the kids."

The lucky Jon boat winner was Miss Haley Lear, age 6, from Greenville.
