bookit 300HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (11/4/13) — The Book It! 5K Run/Walk and Fun Walk will begin with 8 a.m. registration Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Baptist Health's Fitness Formula in Madisonville. The race will begin at 9 a.m.

Participants 18 years and younger will be given a book at the finish line.

Pre-registration is due by Friday, Nov. 8 but participants may still sign up on race day. Registration forms are available at: http://www.hopkins.kyschools.us/bookit5k.

A trophy will be awarded to the school with the most participants.

The event is being organized by Celebrate Literacy Hopkins County, which is comprised of Hopkins County Schools and the Madisonville-Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce.

Hopkins County Literacy Celebration will be March 3 through 8 and will include visits by author Bruce Coville to elementary and middle schools. Coville's works include “My Teacher is an Alien” and “The Monster's Ring”. He will also be the featured speaker during the chamber's Hot Topic Luncheon March 6. His visit is made possible by the Hopkins County Education Foundation, Baptist Health Madisonville and Hopkins County Schools Title I.

Other events included during Hopkins County Literacy Celebration will be the annual Young Authors Festival and the “Ask Me” button project. The Birdhouse Libraries, which are located throughout the county, are another Celebrate Literacy Hopkins County project.
