MURRAY, KY - Rev. Buron Lewis Richerson, age 87, of Murray, KY, passed away at 7:22 am Monday at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital. He was born January 27,1925, in Calloway Co. KY
Bro. Richerson was a retired Baptist minister and a graduate of the Murray Training School and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also attended Union University and Murray State University. He was ordained to the ministry by Sinking Springs Baptist Church in October, 1943. He served as pastor of Sugar Creek, Poplar Springs, and Locust Grove Baptist Churches in Calloway County; Zion's Cause, Hamlet, and First Baptist Church, Calvert City, in Marshall County; First Baptist Church, La Center, in Ballard County; First Baptist Church, Hazard,in Perry County and retired in 1987 from Trenton Baptist Church in Todd County. After retiring, he served as Interim Pastor of West Fork, Locust Grove, Salem, and Sinking Springs Baptist Churches in Calloway County and New Bethel Baptist Church, in Marshall County. He was currently a member of the First Baptist Church, Murray, KY.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Lewis & Lovie Elizabeth Rogers Richerson; his wife, Leona Hogancamp Richerson, who he married on September 15, 1945 and passed away on February 9, 2008; sister, Willie Mae Billington; and brother, John Cletus Richerson.
He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Hart (Fred), Hazel, KY, and Pamela Gibbs, Lawrenceburg, KY; one son, Roger Richerson, Lexington; sister, Robbie Lassiter (Charles), Charlotte, NC; one sister in law, Adele Richerson, Mayfield, KY; one brother in law, Wayne Hogancamp, Gardena, CA; seven grandchildren, David Hart (Christy), Paul Hart (Stacy), Christina Shelhamer, Jennifer Braddock (Corey), Melissa Hardin (Chad), James Gibbs (Megan), and Valerie Gibbs (fiance: Eric Bottoms); eleven great grandchildren, Charlie Wood-Shelhamer, Matthew Shelhamer, Avery Hart, Morgan Hart, Spencer Hart, Ian Hart, Addison Hart, Aiden Braddock, Riley Braddock, Conner Braddock, and Mason Braddock; one step great grandchild, Mark Shelhamer; eleven nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 am Thursday at the York Funeral Home with Rev. Kerry Lambert & Eugene Waggoner officiating. Burial will follow in the Sinking Springs Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday.
