MURRAY, Ky. - Howard Damon Mathis, age 83, of Dexter, KY passed away at 10:15am Sunday at his home. He was born July 13,1929 in Marshall Co. KY to the late Roosevelt and Euple (Hopkins) Mathis.
Mr. Mathis was a member of Hardin Baptist Church and was employed for 32 years at Tappan Co. He then entered the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science and graduated in 1980. He was a licensed embalmer and funeral director. He was associated with York Funeral Home for many years. He also served as Calloway Co. Deputy Coroner for several years.
He is survived by his wife Jo (Ernstberger) Mathis to whom he was married Nov. 19,1949, two daughters; Cindy Ross and Debby Orr (Larry), one sister; Sue Thweatt, five grandchildren; Anthony Orr, Allison Kilgore, Grant Orr, Heather Brasington and Jon Ross, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
His son Glen Mathis preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday at York Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Stewart Cemetery. Friends may visit from 5:00pm until 8:00pm Tuesday at York Funeral Home.
