backalley 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (10/15/13) - Spontaneous dance numbers, hilarious acts, and tight harmonies come to life when Dolly Parton’s hit movie "9 to 5" is brought to the stage at RiverPark Center next month by Back Alley Musicals.

Practice is well underway for the musical set in a late 1970’s office, where three co-workers strategize a plan to take control of their company run by a sexist, egotistical boss. It may be a man’s world, but these women learn there’s nothing they can’t do when they team up and take care of business. Music and lyrics of the Emmy-nominated show are by Dolly Parton, licensed by Music Theatre International, and based on the book by Patricia Resnick, according to a Back Alley Musicals news release.

Back Alley Musical’s most recent show, "The Music Man," wowed audiences with its hugely successful production. Even though the group has “big shoes to fill,” audiences won’t be disappointed by "9 to 5," according to Director Kathryn Patton.

backalley2“You’ve never seen anything like it,” Patton said. “People won’t be bored.”

Many of the actors and crew come from Owensboro and surrounding counties in Kentucky and Southern Indiana. The musical is led by talented actors Tara Noel-Estes as Doralee, Heather Hayden as Violet, Misty Miller as Judy, and Bernie Hayes as their boss, Franklin Hart, who pushes them to their boiling point, the release stated.

This show will be the “premiere product” of the Jody Berry Theatre, said Patton. Patton explained that the newer, bigger location is a “much better fit” for the musical theater group. The show will be seen by audiences at an angle, so that “everyone will have a great seat,” said Patton, who teamed up with Music Director Michael Stone to produce the “fast paced, hilarious” show.

Tickets are on sale now for the Nov. 14 through 17 productions of "9 to 5." Tickets are $22 for adults and $12.50 for students. For more information, call 270-925-4963.
