CROFTON, KY - Huel Ray Owen, 80, of Crofton passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 6:25 a.m., at Jennie Stuart Medical Center following a long illness.
A native of Christian County, Kentucky he was born on July 8, 1931 the son of the late James Thomas Owen and Claudie Petty Owen. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Erma Jean Eli “Jeanie” Owen on January 17, 2009.
He worked as a salesman for Lincoln Insurance Co., He owned and operated the Empire Market in Crofton, and retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority.
Mr. Owen was a Deacon and Member of Castleberry Baptist Church and was a former R.A. instructor at the Crofton Baptist Church. He also attended the Crofton Christian Church with his daughter. He served in the U.S. Army where he attained the rank of Corporal.
Survivors include two sons; James Ray Owen of Crofton, Ky and Shannon Owen of Madisonville, KY. One daughter, Suzanne Owen Boyd of Crofton, KY. Two sisters, Louise Tyson of Hopkinsville, KY and Lola Mae Johanna of Newburg, IN. Six Grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 24, 2012 at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Crofton, with Rev. Dwight Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Castleberry Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home in Crofton.
