Mary Catherine Gavin Stone

HOPKINSVILLE, KY - Mary Catherine Gavin Stone, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away May 31, 2012 in Hopkinsville, KY.

She was born on December 24, 1923 in Jeffersonville, Indiana, the daughter of James J. Gavin and Helen Gould Gavin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joseph Carson Stone, Jr. and brother, James J. Gavin, Jr. She was a proud alumnus of Sacred Heart Academy. She also attended the University of Louisville where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority. She was a lifelong, devoted member of Grace Episcopal Church. She gave tirelessly of her time to various charities and organizations for the ill, underprivileged and illiterate during her lifetime. She was an incredibly loving mother and grandmother. Her unconditional love of her late husband, her children and her grandchildren was unsurpassed. She was devoted to her faith with the same loyalty. She was goodness and grace on this earth. She will be missed.

She is survived by her brother, Dr. Donald P. Gavin, Bonita Springs, FL., her three children, Catherine Stone Austin, Palm Beach, FL., Christy Stone Halloran, Frankfort, KY., and J. Carson Stone, III, Nashville, TN.; four grandchildren, Tyler Brooks Austin, New Orleans, LA., , Kermit E. Austin, III (Lindsay), Wrightsville Beach, NC., Taylor Carson Stone, New Orleans, LA., and Mary Catherine Halloran, Frankfort, KY.; and one great grandchild, Dylan Limanek, Auburn, CA. Also, her devoted companion, Pepper.

Funeral services will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Hopkinsville, KY., with the Reverend Alice Nichols officiating, on June 4th at 1pm with private burial to follow immediately. A reception will be held following the burial at All Saints Parish for her family and many friends.

Visitation will be 6 to 8pm on Sunday, June 3rd at Grace Episcopal Church. Hughart & Beard Funeral home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, 216 East 6th Street, Hopkinsville KY or the Sacred Heart Academy, 3177 Lexington Rd., Louisville, KY 40206-3099.
