CROFTON, Ky. - Opal Jewell (Granny) Hargis, 92, of Crofton, KY passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 at Bradford Heights Health & Rehab Center of natural causes.
A native of Big Rock, Tennessee she was born August 25, 1920, the daughter of the late Murray Robertson and Martha Mae Johnson Robertson. She worked at the Crofton School cafeteria for several years and the City of Crofton as a meter reader. She was a member at Crofton United Methodist Church. She had served on the Crofton City Council. She was the Lion’s Club cook for several years.
Survivors include her sons: Bobby Hargis (Glenn) of Hopkinsville, Billy Hargis (JoAnna) of Elizabethtown, Russell Hargis (Wanda) of Crofton; her daughters: Brenda Joiner of Hopkinsville, Carolyn Renee Hestand of Radcliff, KY; her brother: W.M. Robertson of Princeton; 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Elliott Hargis in 1974, and her daughter, Regina Hargis in 1965.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2013, at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Crofton officiated by Rev. Junior Heltsley and Billy Crick assisting. Burial will follow in Ridgetop Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Crofton.
