HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - George Elbert Benson, 89, Navajo Trail, Hopkinsville, KY died at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, TN of natural causes.
A native of Corydon, KY born July 16, 1923, he was the son of the late Arch and Bertha Garrettson Benson. He was employed for 25 years by the U.S. Postal Service, first as a mail carrier, then most of his years as a window clerk. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church where he was a former deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Frances B. Benson, two sons; George R. (LuAnn) Benson, Crofton, and Bill (Naomi) Benson, Hopkinsville, two daughters; Janet B. (Pat) Robertson, Hopkinsville and Jane B. (Eric) Barron, Sand Springs, OK, six grandchildren; Ginnie Pruitt, James W. Benson, Josh Benson, Sarah Benson, Andrew Barron and Madilyn Barron, and three great-grandchildren; Nona Pruitt, Alexis Benson and Haylee Benson.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 20 2013, at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville officiated by Rev. Gary Gossett. Burial will follow in Green Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Hillcrest Baptist Church.
