HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - G. Adams, 83, of Hopkinsville, KY passed away at 2:52 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center of natural causes.
A native of Christian County, KY he was born December 3, 1929 the son of the late Waldo Emerson Adams and Lyda Marie Billups Adams.
He served as President of Pennyrile Citizens Bank and Trust Company and Sedalia Merchantile Bank and Trust Company. He was a former Vice President at First City Bank and Trust Company. He was also a former Commissioner of Banking and Securities for the Commonwealth of KY.
In addition to his banking career he also was a land developer, farmer, and agriculture teacher.
He had a Bachelor’s of Science in Agriculture from the University of KY and a Master’s Degree in Agriculture from the University of Illinois.
He was an elder and member of First Presbyterian Church in Hopkinsville, KY.
He served as a Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for KY from 1982-1988.
He served as President of the Hopkinsville Christian County Chamber of Commerce in 1985 and a director from 1982-1986 and Vice President and Director from 1963-1967.
He was Chairman of the United Way Campaign for Hopkinsville Christian County in 1984 and served as a director for the United Way from 1981-1985.
He served as President of the Hopkinsville Rotary Club in 1963 and remained as a senior active member.
He was a member and Secretary-Treasurer of the Pennyrile Electric Cooperative Board of Directors from 1958 – 1967.
He was the University of KY Alumni Association President for Christian County in 1966.
He was the Hopkinsville Christian County Junior Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Young Farmer in 1958 and Outstanding Young Man of the Year in 1962.
He was a member of the Murray State University Board of Regents from 1967 – 1973.
He was a member of the Christian County Republican Party Executive Committee from 2002-2006 and served on the Christian County Board of Elections from 2001 -2007.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Betty Wheeler Adams (2001); his son: Andy Adams (2001); and his daughter: Ellen Adams (1993).
Survivors include his companion: Donna Thurman; his daughters: Elizabeth Adams Ludeen (Mitch) of Coral Gables, FL and Allison Adams Powers (Steve) of Nashville, TN; his brother: Waldo E. Adams, Jr. of Illinois; his grandchildren: Michael Almy, Zachary Almy, Mitchell Lundeen, Jr., and Stewart Lundeen; and his great grandchildren: Gavin Almy and Hyler Barnett-Almy.
Services will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Don Troutman, Rev. Rich Cooper, and Rev. Charlie Evans officiating. All friends and family are invited to attend a reception immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall at First Presbyterian Church.
