HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - Alexander Joseph (Junior) Hawkins, Jr., age 82, of Hopkinsville, KY, passed away at his residence Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 11:02 PM of natural causes.
Junior was born January 17, 1931 in Praise, KY, the son of the late Alexander “Jody” Hawkins, Sr. and Arizona Potter Hawkins. He was a United States Army retiree from the 101st Airborne Division; Sergeant First Class “11 BRAVO” Infantry with his Airborne and Air Assault Wings and also a Master Jumper and Expert Rifleman. He served two tours in Vietnam and one tour in Korea. He obtained his Associates Degree in Carpentry from Austin Peay State University. Junior also retired from American National Insurance Company in 1988 awarded as Top Sales Agent. He then established Hawkins’ Landscaping family business and operated until 1995. He was a member of Christ Community Church.
Junior was preceded in death by his only brother, Bobby Gene Hawkins and two sisters, Dora Potter and Sarah Hawkins Coleman. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Eulavene Stevens Hawkins of Hopkinsville, KY; his son, Tony Gene Hawkins of Hopkinsville, KY; his daughters Vera “Lynne” Latham and her husband, Phil of Loveland, Ohio; Vickie Leigh Shepherd and her husband, Chris of Pleasanton, TX; Angela Sue Hawkins of Lawrenceburg, KY; Carol Ann Robertson and her husband, Jim of Hopkinsville, KY; and Lisa Michelle Barrow and her husband, Mike of Hopkinsville, KY; his sisters Margaret Adkins of Pikeville, KY and Loretta Stevens of Elkhorn City, KY; twelve grandchildren: Chris Allen, Heather Maldonado, Rebekah Shepherd, Daniel Dunn, T.J. Hawkins, Philip Latham, Joseph Shepherd, Elizabeth Goodrich, Christina Latham, Freeman Robertson, Aleasha Fowler, Lynden Fowler and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Gossett officiating. Burial will be 2:00 PM at KY Veteran’s Cemetery-West. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home.
