HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - Denena Mathis Brown, 81, of Herndon passed away at 4:35 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2013 at her daughter’s residence of natural causes.
A native of Trigg County, KY she was born June 18, 1931 the daughter of the late Alvurn Caleb Mathis and Beatrice Miles Mathis. She was retired as the cafeteria manager at South Christian Elementary School after 42 years. She was a member of Little River Baptist Church and attended LaFayette Methodist Church and Hillcrest Baptist Church. She was a member of the Food Service Association. She was a founding member of the Herndon Volunteer Fire Department.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Conway Brown, Sr., her son: William C. Brown, Jr., and her daughter, Martha Ellen Brown.
Survivors include her son: Robert W. Brown of Herndon; her daughters: Mrs. Gary “Betty Jane” Sisk of Dawson Springs, KY, Mrs. Steve “Reta” Williamson of Hopkinsville, KY, and Debbie Brown Pryor of LaFayette, KY; her brothers: C.A. Mathis, Jr. of Hopkinsville, KY, Jimmy Mathis of Herndon, KY, and Dr. Don Mathis of Bowling Green, KY; her sisters: Margery Henderson of Burkesville, KY, and Sherry Brege of Atlanta, GA; 12 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013 at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville with the Rev. Dr. Don Mathis and the Rev. Dr. William B. Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Powell Cemetery in LaFayette, KY. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home.
