HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - Hal William Johnson, Jr., 86, of Hopkinsville, Ky passed away at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, June 23, 1013 at his residence of natural causes.
A native of Hopkinsville, KY he was born April 17, 1927 the son of the late Hal W. Johnson, Sr. and Lucille Lane Petrie Johnson. He worked for the original Planters Bank as a Vice President and was the manager of the Westside Branch for many years before he joined Wallace Lawson Insurance Agency as a partner. During his career he served as President of the Kiwanis Club and the Jaycees. He was also named the “Outstanding Young Man” by the Jaycees. He served as the Treasurer of the local Fair Board for many years. He was a member of First Christian Church where he served as a deacon and elder. He was also a member of the “Arby’s Coffee Club”. He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity at the University of Ky. He was a United States Navy veteran having served in Japan during World War II.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step mother Thelma Burrus Johnson.
Survivors include his wife: Julia “Judy” Johnson; his son: Hal W. Johnson III (Kristi) of Brentwood, TN; his daughter: Julia Lane Bond (Stephen) of Lexington, KY; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013 at First Christian Church with the Rev. Nathan C. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home. Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville is in charge of the arrangements.
