Dr. Arthur Leon Cotterill, 87, of Hopkinsville, KY

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Dr. Arthur Leon Cotterill, 87, of Hopkinsville, KY, widower of Ruth Ann Grannis Cotterill, formerly of Lexington, KY, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013, in Hopkinsville, KY.

The youngest son of the late Charles Townley and Leila Sousley Cotterill, he was a veteran of World War II, having served as a radioman in the Navy in the South Pacific.

Dr. Cotterill was a renowned educator having served as the superintendent of schools in Fleming County, KY, and in the Richmond, KY Independent School District. He was involved in many Title III projects in education throughout Ky, and served in the Ky Department of Education. He was also a member of Central Christian Church in Lexington, KY and was active with Habitat for Humanity.

Survivors include two sons, John Allen (Donna) Cotterill, Hopkinsville, KY and Thomas Mark (Janna) Cotterill, Columbia, SC; one daughter, Ann Lynne (Robert) Cunningham, Sylacauga, AL; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.

A graveside service will be 1 PM Monday at the Lexington Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:30 until 12:30 PM Monday at Milward – Broadway.

Contributions are suggested to Central Christian Church, Alzheimer’s Association or Habitat for Humanity.
