HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - William R. (Bill) Adams, 79, of Hopkinsville, Ky passed away at 3:25 a.m. Thursday, July 4, 2013 at his residence of natural causes.
A native of Trigg County, KY he was born May 27, 1934 the son of the late Major R. and Deanie Henderson Adams. He owned and operated Bill Adams Appraisal Service from 1998 until his retirement in 2006.
He started out as a professional farm manager and managed large farming and cattle feed operations in the area. He went on to work at the old Planters Bank and Trust Company and Nations Bank until it was sold in 1998. He was an Assistant Vice President. He worked in the Trust Department, was the facilities and property manager, and the chief real estate appraiser for the Loan Department. He had been designated as a Senior Real Estate Appraiser of the Appraisal Institute. He was a General Certified Appraiser by the Kentucky and Tennessee Real Estate Appraisers Boards.
He served as the first state president, and was active in the Kentucky Young Farmers Association and a member of the steering committee when the organization was started in 1958. He was a past member of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers. He was also president of the Kentucky Association of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers.
He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He had taught Sunday School and lead bible studies for many years. Also, as a former member of Second Baptist Church he served as deacon for 18 years. He led bible studies and counseled inmates at the Christian County Jail for 19 years. He met with a men’s prayer group on Monday mornings for over 25 years.
A love for roses, which he shared freely, led him to become a member of The American Rose Society. As well as being a former member of the Pennyrile Rose Society.
He was a volunteer for Pennyroyal Hospice.
He was preceded in death by his first wife: Carolyn Sue Adams; his step daughter: Laura DeFore; his brother: Claud V. Adams; and his sisters: Eliza Colley and Lillian Coomer.
Survivors include his wife: Dolly DeFore Adams; his daughter: Sonya Dillingham (James) of Hopkinsville; his stepson: Brett DeFore (Karen) of Nashville, TN; his stepdaughter: Mindy DeFore of Hopkinsville; and five step grandchildren.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Hillcrest Baptist Church with the Rev. Kent Workman, Rev. Greg Giltner, and Rev. Dr. Joe Bufford officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville is in charge of the arrangements.
