Barbara Sue Reisenauer Smith, 80, Hopkinsville, Ky

obit17HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - Barbara Sue Reisenauer Smith, 80, Hopkinsville, Ky died July 8, 2013, at home of complications from lung cancer.

Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 15, 1932, in Tomah, Wis., the second daughter of Albert and Irma (Taft) Reisenauer.

A registered nurse, she was a graduate of (Methodist) Kahler Hospitals School of Nursing, Rochester, Minn. She maintained an avid interest in genealogy, having traced the lineage of both her parents back to the early 1600s. She was a member of the Taft Family Association of Mendon, Mass. She enjoyed history, and one of the highlights of her life was having the opportunity to live and travel in Europe when her husband was assigned to the American Embassy in Vienna, Austria.

Those surviving to honor her memory and irrepressible spirit are her husband of 59 years, Donald R. Smith of Hopkinsville; one son, Jeffrey A. Smith of Bowling Green, and two daughters, Dr. Kimberly A. Smith of Elgin, Texas, and Erica J. Smith of Norfolk, Va.; one sister, Irma Ann (David) Seaberg of Osprey, Fla.; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents and by her sister, Mary Ellen (Wayne) Sagehorn of Cassville, Wis.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home, 2504 S. Virginia St., Hopkinsville, with the Rev. Lloyd Tucker of Pennyroyal Hospice officiating. Burial will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, Hopkinsville. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pennyroyal Hospice, 220 Burley Ave., Hopkinsville.
