Theatre Workshop Presents Shakespeare… With a Twist

OWENSBORO, Ky. (7/19/13) – Everything is better with zombies… even Shakespeare.

That’s the idea behind Theatre Workshop of Owensboro’s latest theatrical venture, Much Ado about Nothing… During a Zombie Apocalypse. Shakespeare’s classic piece has been “reanimated” by TWO director Rebecca Wright.

“Rebecca knew she wanted to do a Shakespeare show this summer with the high school aged students, and kept thinking about how to make it exciting,” said TWO production manager Beth Parthum. “People tend to think Shakespeare is boring, but when you see it, you realize it has a lot of humor.”

The decision to use zombies as a way to add a modern twist was a favorite choice for Wright and her staff.

“She threw around a few ideas but when she started talking about zombies there was a glint in her eye and her mind was made up,” said Parthum speaking of Wright. “It's a great way to bring in people and youth who might not normally see Shakespeare but are willing to give it a try because they like zombies.”

Theatre Workshop of Owensboro is located downtown on Fifth Street and will be presenting four performances of Much Ado on Friday, July 26 at 7 p.m., Saturday, July 27 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, July 28 at 2 p.m.

TICKETS are $10 for adults and $6 for kids. TWO members get half off the price of admission.
