Clyde Harrison Grace, Jr.

 

crossflowersHOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - Clyde Harrison Grace, Jr., Local Educator, passed away on August 26, 2013 at his home, following a short illness.

Born to Clyde and Lila Grace of Christian County KY on December 9, 1937, Mr. Grace graduated from Crofton High School in 1956 and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Murray State University in 1968, and earned his Master's Degree from the University of KY in 1968.. He taught vocational agriculture in North Hardin High School and Lyon County High School before working in the Christian County Young and Adult Farmers Programs. Additionally, he also taught Young Farmers classes in Todd, Trigg, and Lyon counties.

Mr. Grace received numerous awards and citations during his lifetime including; Outstanding Young Educator 1967-1968 (Kuttawa Jaycees), Distinguished Service Award 1969 (Lyon County Soil Conservation District), Honorary KY Young Farmers Degree (1981), Award of Merit (1986) for outstanding accomplishments in Resource Conservation (Christian County Conservation District), Distinguished Service Award 1984-1995 (Christian County Conservation District), and KVATA Award for Thirty-three years of Agriculture Service (1995).He held numerous offices in teacher’s organizations on local, state, and district levels and served as secretary and President of Murray State University Agriculture Alumni Association. He was a KY Colonel.

A long-time active member of Hopkinsville First United Methodist Church, Clyde married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Jane West, on June 25, 1957. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Sr. and Lila Bernice (Gossett) Grace; brother, Warren Ray Grace; and son, Warren Scott Grace. He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Wanda Jane (West) Grace; daughter, Lisa (Steve) Willis; sister, Janice (Richard) Fancher; five grandchildren: Mason Ray Grace, Adam Lucas Grace, Justin Blaine Nash, Tiffany Smith, Laura Elizabeth Grace; 2 great-grandchildren: Donavan Smith, Cordell Jaxon Smith; 2 nieces and 2 nephews and sister-in-law Ann Keith.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Choir Fund, 1305 S. Main St, Hopkinsville, KY 42240; or, Pennyroyal Hospice, 220 Burley Ave., Hopkinsville, KY 42240.
