theater work oboroOWENSBORO, Ky. (9/17/13) - ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ will open the Theatre Workshop’s 50th anniversary on Friday with its rendition of the quirky musical.

All the shows in the 2013-2014 season will be commemorating the golden anniversary; acts that viewers wanted to see and actors wanted to perform again. This year’s shows are shows that have appealed well to audiences over the last 50 years. Shows include: Steel Magnolias, A Christmas Carol, The Mountaintop, Noises Off, The Nerd, and Guys and Dolls.

The theatre workshop, residing in Owensboro since 1955, is known as “The Longest Running Show in Town”, according to the theatre’s website. The theatre recently purchased their 100-year-old theatre on Frederica, so the shows in this season will be shown in both the Trinity Center and the TWO playhouse.

“It’s remarkable for any theatre to put on 50 seasons,” Stephen Coppick, Executive Director said.

50 successful years of performances can be credited to volunteers of actors, trustees, and back stage workers, says Coppick.

“(The 50th season) is really a tribute to the volunteers,” Coppick said.

The anniversary Is a “major accomplishment” for the workshop, says David Robertson, Director of “Little Shop of Horrors”.

“It shows the staying power of the community,” Robertson said.

To purchase tickets for ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, call 270-683-5333. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for students, and half-price for members.
