HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - John Stephen 'Steve' Orten, 59 of Hopkinsville, Ky died at 5:40 a.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2013 at his residence after a long illness.
A native of Hopkinsville born May 19, 1954, he was the son of the late John Robert Orten and Dorothy Matilda Cathcart Kernell. He was a member of Orange Grove Baptist Church. He was retired from CSX Railroad after working for 25 years as a heavy equipment operator.
Survivors include his wife Diana Kay Barnett Orten, one daughter, Leslie Orten Lancaster and her husband Jim, Hopkinsville, two brothers; Robin Neal Orten, Lockhart, TX and Kevin Clay Kernell, Maryville, TN, two sisters; Suzi Orten Downey, Murray, KY and Melody Kernell Enoch, also of Murray, and three grandchildren; Coby James Lancaster, Caleb Hunter Lancaster and Macy Kathryn Lancaster.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2013 at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Larry Dale Combs with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stephen Crisp, Wayne Spain, Ronnie Barnett, Casey Butterwort, Bruce Orten, Obie Walker and Keith Patterson.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Christian Co. Special Olympics, in honor of Caleb Lancaster, 1409 Shallow Lake Circle, Hopkinsville, KY 42240.
