Ruthie Joyce Carpenter, 74 of Hopkinsville, KY

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - Ruthie Joyce Carpenter, 74 of Hopkinsville, KY passed away 11:11 a.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center of natural causes.

Joyce was born October 29, 1938 in Thomasville, GA the daughter of the late Ben and Annie Mae Jordan Thomas. She was a homemaker, an underwriter for several insurance companies and also an executive secretary. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church where she was Sunday School Directory. Joyce was preceded in death by one brother, Ben Thomas; two sisters, Betty Elgin and Shirley Boyd.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Larry Carpenter Sr. of Hopkinsville, one son, Larry 'Buzz' Carpenter Jr. and his wife Beth of Hopkinsville; one daughter, Melinda Carpenter of Hopkinsville; one brother, Roger Thomas of Nicholasville, KY; four sisters, Janice Grimm of Moultrie, GA, Linda Conner of Moultrie, GA; Donnis Broome of Versailles, KY and Carol Rohan Versailles, KY; four grandchildren, Tiffany Clark and her husband Shane of Lexington, KY, Luke Carpenter, Dalton Carpenter, and Blake Carpenter all of Hopkinsville; one great granddaughter, Madelyn Carpenter of Hopkinsville.

Services will be 12:00 p.m.  Friday, October 25, 2013 at Second Baptist Church with Rev. David Tucker, Rev. Bob Lawrence, Mack Grimm and Raymond Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Ky Veterans Cemetery West. Visitation will be after 5:00 p.m.  Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Second Baptist Church. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home in Hopkinsville in charge of arrangement.

Donation can be made to the Second Baptist Church Vision Fund at 720 West 7th Street, Hopkinsville, KY 42240.
