BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Albert T. Schlag (Mr. Al), 66, of Hopkinsville, Ky passed away Oct. 24, 2013, at his daughter’s residence in Bowling Green. Albert was born May 24, 1947, in Alexandria, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Thomas Schlag Sr. and Edna Virginia Evans Schlag.
Albert served in the Vietnam War with the USMC and retired from the U.S. Army with 20 years of service. After retiring from the Army, Albert became a beloved presence in the Fort Campbell School System. He dedicated himself to the Fort Campbell Falcons and SPED Students at Mahaffey Middle School.
Albert is survived by his wife of 43 years, Martha Schlag; two daughters, Amy Elizabeth Schlag and her partner, Dr. Katie R. Peel, of Wilmington, N.C., and Allyson Elaine Schlag-Hall of Bowling Green; a sister, Mary Virginia Foos (Dennis) of Williamsburg, Va.; a brother, Buddy Blake of Colonial Beach, Va.; and the joys of his life, grandchildren Cody Garrett Hall, Lauren Elizabeth Hall and Carleigh Alisa Schlag. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at J.C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the time of services. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Ky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville with military honors.
