HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - Carold Ray 'Smitty' Smith, 73, of Hopkinsville, Ky, passed away at 8:10 a.m. Dec. 2, 2013, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center of natural causes.
A native of Taylorsville, North Carolina, he was born the son of the late Landon Carl and Hexie Mae Bentley Smith. He was a retired Sgt Major from the US Army and served in the Vietnam War. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles 3423, VFW Post 1913, Benevolent & Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 0545, American Legion Post 233, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 8. He was a Mason and Shriner.
He is survived by his wife, Gabriele Barbara Smith; his 2 sons, Anthony C. Smith of Statesville, NC, and Carold Ray Smith, Jr. (Libby) of Madisonville; his 2 daughters, Patricia Ann Heinze (Jason) of Hallsville, TX, and Caroline Aragon of Lakeland, FL; his sister, Irene Walker (Ricky) of Claremont, NC; 5 grandchildren, Stephanie Aragon, Kellie Aragon, Alexander Heinze, Aiden Heinze, and Analea Heinze; and a step-granddaughter, Shelby Hill.
Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville, with a military chaplain officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with Masonic Rites at 12:30p.m. Burial following at Riverside Cemetery. Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
