Doris Melton Powell, age 79 of Clifty, KY

 

sunrayHOPKINSVILLE, KY - Doris Melton Powell, age 79 of Clifty, KY, passed away 10:35 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at her residence following a long illness.

Mrs. Doris was born in Muhlenberg County on April 16, 1932 the daughter of the late Elver and Flossie Sweeney Melton. She was a teacher at Sharon Grove School, Clifty School and Elkton School, she was also the Adult Ed Teacher and a Supervisor at the Todd County Board of Education. Mrs. Doris was one of the Founders of the Todd County Public Library, Past President of Delta Kappa Gama Teacher Sorority, Past Member of Pennyroyal Art Council in Hopkinsville, KY, Gideons Ladies Auxillary. She was a member of Joines Chapel General Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Womens Missionary Society. She is preceded in death besides by her parents her step mother Angie Farmer Melton, her husband Eulis W. Powell passed away in 1998.

Survivors include one son Stevie (Brenda) Powell of Clifty, KY, two daughers Wanda (Carl) Johnston of Kirkmansville, KY and Darlene (Lanny) Groves of Clifty, KY, 7 Grandchildren, Ashley Groves, Stephanie Johnston Alvis, Brian Groves, Andy Powell, Jeremy Johnston, Shannon Powell Ray and Bradley Powell. Also surviving are 18 Great Grandchildren.

Services will be Friday November 18, 2011 11:00 a.m. at Joines Chapel General Baptist Church with Rev. Curt Yarbrough, Mr. Ashley Groves Grandson, Mr. Jeremy Johnston Grandson and Mr. Darian Ray Grandson In Law officiating. Burial will follow in the Heltsley Cemetery in Clifty, KY. Visitation will be on Thursday November 17, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton, KY and on Friday at Joines Chapel General Baptist Church after 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Donations may be made to the Gideons International P.O. Box 4, Elkton, KY 42220.
