HOPKINSVILLE, KKY - Robert C. Carter, 77, of Hopkinsville, KY died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2011 at his residence of natural causes.
A native of Mount Vernon, GA he was born January 22, 1934 the son of the late Clarke Carter and Lucille Pearce and step father E. L. Pearce. He was the retired President and Publisher of the Kentucky New Era. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was the former Chairmen of the Board of Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority, former Chairman of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, former President of the AUSA, former President of the Kentucky Press Association, former Chairman of the Board of Regents at Murray State University, and was a 2011 inductee into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame, and he served in the United States Army.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Lynn Carter.
Survivors include his wife: Ann Carter; two daughters: Beth Carter of Los Angeles, CA and Jini Carter-Sheehy (Ned) of Lexington, KY; his half brother: Larkin; and two half sisters: Gloria and Ann.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville with Rev. Dr. Rick Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home.
