HOPKINSVILLE, KY - Dr. Arthur N. Anderson Jr., 85, who practiced dentistry in Hopkinsville and was a resident of Clinton Circle, died at 10:34 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center following a long illness.
A native of Hopkinsville, he was born May 17, 1926, the son of the late Arthur Newton Anderson Sr. and Clara Reese Anderson. He was a retired dentist and, following graduation from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, started his practice in Hopkinsville in 1954. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he had served as deacon, was a former Sunday school teacher and for many years worked with youth of the church.
In addition, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club and had helped to form the first tennis club in Hopkinsville. He coached tennis for a year at University Heights Academy and a year at Christian County High School.
He was a World War II Army Air Force veteran.
A daughter, Polly Sue Anderson, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Sue Anderson; a son, Dr. Arthur N. (Kim) Anderson III, Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters, Clareesa Thomas (Dr. David), Paducah, Judy Greene (Dr. David), Hopkinsville, and six grandchildren: Catherine Wright, David Greene III, Kalleb Greene, Brynn Greene, Alexa Clarge Anderson, and Arthur “Anson” Anderson IV.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Dr. Rick Stevens and Dr. Rodney Travis officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 until 6 p.m. Saturday at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home, Hopkinsville, and visitation Sunday will be from 1 p.m. until time for the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Polly Sue Anderson Youth Fund at First Baptist Church or to the building fund at First Baptist.
