HOPKINSVILLE, KY - Thomas Leslie (Les) Simmons, 74, Pembroke passed away at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2012 at his residence of natural causes.
A native of Central City, KY he was born January 8, 1937 the son of the late Clifford Leslie Simmons and Thelma Virginia Bullard Simmons. He was a retired 5th Special Forces Master Sergeant from Alpha Company Second Battalion United States Army Green Beret’s retiring after 25 years of dedicated service having served in Korea and a remarkable six tours in Vietnam. He was awarded the a Purple Heart, the Bronze Star five times twice with V device, and the Army Commendation Metal with V device. He was a member of Pembroke Christian Church and was master scuba diver.
Survivors include three sons: Thomas Simmons II of Madison, AL, Richard Simmons (Carmen) of Mobile, AL, and Charles Simmons (Erica) of Cherry Hill, NJ; five daughters: Leigh Lykins (Steve) of Davenport, IA, Lynn Johnson (Walter) of El Paso, TX, Karen Sue Trent (Anthony) of Cocoa Beach, FL, Margaret Rose Pritchard of Wilmington, NC, and Nicole Michelle Peters (William) of Henderson, NV; a brother: Bill Simmons (Dottie) of Hopkinsville; a sister: Barbara Ann Moseley of Mobile, AL; several grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Graveside services with military honors will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2012 at Rosedale Cemetery in Pembroke. There will be no visitation. Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville is in charge of the arrangements.
