Wanda Harper Henry, 79, of Owensboro

 

OWENSBORO, KY - Wanda Harper Henry, 79, of Owensboro passed away February 25, 2012, at her residence. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College and her Masters and Rank 1 from Western Kentucky University.

Mrs. Henry retired from Owensboro Senior High School after working in the public school system for 27 years. She received her realtor license and had worked for Home Realty, was active with Impact 100, appointed to the Attorney General’s Commission for Senior Citizens, was a member of the Kappa Kappa Iota Delta Sorority, First Christian Church and a life time member of the Kentucky Education Association. For six years she spent much of her time at the Lieutenant Governor's Mansion in Frankfort, Kentucky where she served as a hostess to official dignitaries and visitors.

Mrs. Henry was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Lewis Henry; her parents Carl and Clara Lanham Harper; brothers, Charles Harper; John L. Harper Sr. (Jay L.) and Robert Eugene Harper, and sister Helen Tichenor.

Survivors include her son, Former Lieutenant Governor Dr. Stephen L. Henry and his wife Heather French Henry; granddaughters, Harper Renee Henry and Taylor Augusta Henry all of Louisville; and her brothers, Larry Harper, Harold Harper, both of Chicago, and a sister Virginia McCarty of Owensboro.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.
