James Burton (J.B.) Arnold, Jr.

 

OWENSBORO, KY - James Burton (J.B.) Arnold, Jr. passed away March 7, 2012 at Owensboro Medical Health System.

Mr. Arnold was born January 23, 1920 to the late James Burton Arnold, Sr. and Cora Arnold. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Betty B. Arnold, on August 29, 2011.

He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Conners and Lucille Arnold and brothers, Virgil Arnold, Joe Billy Arnold and William Turner Arnold.

Mr. Arnold served in World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Corps. stationed in France and Germany. After the war, Mr. Arnold was employed by General Electric Company where he served as Union President for Local 783. He later was appointed to the position of National Representative for the Allied Industrial Workers of America, serving in that position for many years before being elected Regional Director for the AIW. He held that position until his retirement in 1989. Mr. Arnold represented and organized unions in several states and was affiliated with unions all over the U.S. He served on the Owensboro Council of Labor. Mr. Arnold was a Kentucky Colonel and a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW and the AmVets. Mr. Arnold served as Post Adjutant for the AmVets and enjoyed playing "Uncle Sam" in the Veterans Day parade. Mr. Arnold was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved playing golf and spending time with his family and friends.

Mr. Arnold is survived by his sons, Greg Arnold (Debbie) of Masonville, KY and Mark Arnold of California; his grandson, Ryan Arnold of Owensboro; his granddaughter, Lisa McNeese of Joelton, TN; four great-granddaughters, Eve McNeese, Maebry McNeese, Jaclyn Arnold and Georgia Gabbert Arnold; his sister, Virgie Hines of Owensboro; sister-in-law, Jessie Arnold of Owensboro and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Medley and the staff of the Transitional Care Unit at OMHS and the doctors and staff of Owensboro Dialysis Center for their many years of care given to Mr. Arnold.

Services are at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2012, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro with military honors conducted by VFW Post 696. Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday and after 9:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. A final military salute will be at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Third Baptist Church, P.O. Box 808, Owensboro, KY 42302 or to Disabled American Veterans, 1809 Grimes Avenue, Owensboro, KY 42303.
