OWENSBORO, KY - Chester Vernue Rogers, 79, of Owensboro, KY passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at Owensboro Medical Health System.
He was born on June 9, 1932 in Breckinridge County, KY to the late Chester & Nannie Belle Rogers. He retired from Dravo Bargeline as a River Boat Captain. Chester was a Veteran of the United States Army, where he was a paratrooper during the Korean War. During the Korean War there were only two paratrooper jumps into North Korea and Chester jumped both times. He is a member the VFW Post 696. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Austin Franklin Rogers.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Peggy Rogers; a daughter, Glenda Doris Welsh of Murray, KY; a son, Steven Louis Rogers and wife, Pam of Grayson, GA; four grandchildren, Alicia Margaret Welsh, Kristy Michelle Nance, Chance Vernue Rogers, Dalton Steven Rogers; a sister, JoAnn Hall of Cloverport; a brother-in law, Darrell Bruner and wife, Sandy of Hawesville and four nephews.
Chester's wishes were to be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro is in charge of arrangements.
