OWENSBORO, KY - Dr. George H. Batchelor, 76, of Owensboro, passed away on March 22, 2012 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Montreal, Canada to the late Thomas and Frances (Bonhomme) Batchelor.
Dr. Batchelor attended the University of Delaware for two years before transferring to McGill University where he graduated from medical school , served his internship and began his residency. During his residency he was drafted into the U.S. Army at Fort Gordon where he served for two years during the Vietnam War.
Dr. Batchelor was an otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat surgeon) and retired from the University of Virginia where he had served as a clinical instructor to surgical residents for six years. His career also included thirteen years at T. J. Samson Medical Center in Glasgow, KY and sixteen years at Roanoke Community Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. He was an active and 35 year member of the American Medical Association.
Dr. and Mrs. Batchelor moved to Owensboro only a year and a half ago to be near family.
They had previously lived in Sun City, Florida where Dr. Batchelor could very often be found on the golf course. The Batchelors also enjoyed summers at their home in Montreal, Canada. They were of the Catholic Faith.
Dr. Batchelor is survived by his wife of 50 years, Louise (Bourassa) Batchelor; two daughters, Kim Welsh of Owensboro, KY and Jennifer Whitham of Norfolk, Virginia; two sons, Robert Batchelor of Ashland, KY and Thomas Batchelor of Houston, Texas; eleven grandchildren and two sisters, Maude “Mary Rose” Batchelor and Cecile Batchelor.
Private services will be held.
