Carl R. Whitehouse, 89, of Owensboro, KY

OWENSBORO, KY - Carl R. Whitehouse, 89, of Owensboro, KY passed away Sunday, March 25, 2012.

He was born on December 10, 1922 in Magan Station, KY to the late Arthur and Effie Whitehouse. He was the past Chief Executive Officer and Board Member of South Central Bank. He has had 65 years of banking experience in Owensboro, starting his banking career with First Owensboro Bank & Trust Company in 1946. He graduated from Fordsville High School, Owensboro Business College and the University of Wisconsin School of Banking. He was president of the Owensboro Chamber of Commerce from 1976-77. He served on the Industrial Foundation Board, Boys Club Board, Owensboro Municipal Utilities Board, Junior Achievement Board, Airport Board, and KY Board of Medical Licensure. He served on various committees of the KY Bankers Association, National Director of Travelers Protective Association for 2 years and Secretary/Treasurer of the local TPA organization for 26 years. He worked with the United Way, Red Cross and with other local organizations. He was a member of Owensboro Christian Church and of the Owensboro Country Club. He was a Navy veteran serving during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Whitehouse; sons, Howard C. Whitehouse and Howell R. Whitehouse and by a sister, Zonia Hanson.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Maxine Higginbotham Whitehouse; a son, Joseph A. Whitehouse and wife, Terri of Franklin, TN; a stepson, James E. Higginbotham, Jr. and wife, Teresa of Louisville; two grandchildren, Ashley and Alicia Whitehouse; two step-grandchildren, Trip and Aaron Higginbotham; four step-great grandchildren and two nieces, Carol McQueen and Cindy Hutchinson both of Lexington, KY

Services are at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro.

Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Sonny Hutchinson, Danny McQueen, Trip Higginbotham, Aaron Higginbotham, David Fort and David Ross with Billy Joe Miles and Orin Fagala serving as honorary pallbearers.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to United Way of the Ohio Valley, P.O. Box 705, Owensboro, KY 42302 or to Owensboro Christian Church, 2818 New Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303.
