HENDERSON, KY - Gerald Ray (Jerry) Tolbert, age 78, of Reed, KY, passed away at 1:00 AM, Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at his home.
Mr. Tolbert was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Anna Mae Tolbert.
Survivors include: Wife of 49 years: Shannon Tolbert Reed, KY; 1 Daughter: Carmen Jagoe and husband Scott Owensboro, KY; 1 Brother-in-Law: Bill Beasley and wife Charlene Henderson, KY; 2 Sisters-in-Law: Cherie Fulton Henderson, KY, Sue Williams Baskett, KY; 2 Grandchildren: Lindsey & Alexander Jagoe.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Jerusalem Lodge #9, and the Elks Lodge #206. Jerry's broadcasting career included news, weather and sports for 40 years. Mr. Tolbert started his career at age 15 for WSON in 1949. He joined WEHT in Evansville, IN in 1953, as a weathercaster. After graduating from Evansville College he then moved to Denver, CO, as sportscaster for KOA-TV. From there he moved to WGN in Chicago, IL where he had a 20 year broadcasting career. He was the Black Hawk Hockey announcer and Chicago Bulls and Bears announcer. The Highlights of his broadcasting career includes an Emmy nomination with CBS in Weather Broadcasting.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 6, 2012 at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, Henderson, KY. Rev. Greg Rose & Rev. Walter McGee will officiate. Burial will be in at a later date.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday and from 10:00 AM until service time on Friday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, Henderson, KY.
Masonic Services will be held at 7:00 PM, Thursday evening at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home.
