OWENSBORO, Ky. - Hilton Reed Atherton 86, of Livermore, KY passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Hilton Reed Atherton was born March 25, 1926 in McLean County, KY to the late Ollie and Adena Bell Atherton and was married to the former Hazel Adkins on April 15, 1949. Hilton was a farmer, a retired coal miner, and a member of the Buck Creek Baptist Church. He was a charter member of the Livermore Lion's Club, a member of Utica Lodge # 742 F. & A.M., a member of the Rizpah Shrine Temple in Madisonville, and served on the McLean County Extension Board for several years.
In addition to his parents, Hilton was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Hazel Adkins Atherton, who passed away March 1, 2001; by a brother, Clarence Atherton; and by a sister, Anna Belle Dunn.
Survivors include four sons, Carl Lee Atherton and wife, Wanda of Owensboro, Ollie Dale Atherton and wife, Mary, Tommy Joe Atherton, and David Reed Atherton all of Livermore; a daughter, Barbara Annette Atherton and husband, Danny Adams of Shelbyville; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; three brothers, Horace "Toad" Atherton of Livermore, J.M. Atherton of Calhoun, and Guy Atherton of Utica; and a sister, Gertrude Knott of Owensboro.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Webb officiating. Burial will be in the Green River Memorial Gardens in Livermore. Friends may visit with Hilton's family from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday and from 10:00 A.M. until time of services Tuesday at Musters in Livermore. Masonic services for Hilton will be held at 7:00 P.M. Monday at Musters in Livermore.
