OWENSBORO, Ky. - Donald F. Manley, 82, of Habit went to be with the Lord Monday, March 25, 2013. He was born March 26, 1930, in Crittenden County, to the late Willie and Florence (Towery) Manley. Don proudly served in the Korean conflict with the US Army as an engineer. He attended Western KY University and was employed as a Tool and Die maker at General Electric who also taught machine shop at Owensboro Area Vocational School. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed UK basketball which stemmed from his days of playing basketball for Daviess County High School where in 1949 he scored a record setting 52 ft. shot leading into half-time. He became a Deacon of Bethabara Baptist Church in Habit in the late 1960’s where he went on to teach the men’s Sunday School class for over forty years.
Don was also preceded in death by his brothers, David Chesley, Glenn, Leon, and Alfred Manley.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Mary (Ashworth) Manley; brothers, Joe Manley and Dempsey Manley both of Owensboro and Gerald Manley of Umatilla, FL; sisters, Hazel Manley of Owensboro and Marylin Elkins of Marion, OH and son Stephen Wade Manley (Lisa) of Habit; daughters Reba Atkinson (Kirk) of Round Hill, KY and Tracy Elaine McNaughton (John) of Dallas, TX; Grandchildren, Chesley Clark, Quentin Clark, Josiah Turner, Xavier Clark, Dakota Atkinson, Alexis Atkinson, Levi Manley, Angela Atkinson, Abigial Manley, and Mekailah Atkinson; great granddaughters, Isabella Clark and Cora Clark, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Bethabara Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 12:00 p.m. on Friday at the church. Burial will follow at Bethabara Baptist Cemetery.
