Thelma Layman, 82

OWENSBORO, Ky - Thelma Layman, 82, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Hillcrest Healthcare Center. She was born November 26, 1930 in Daviess County, to the late Edward and Ida Green Speed. She was a former employee of Sorgho Elementary School and was a member of Garden Green Baptist Church. Mrs. Layman enjoyed U.K. Basketball, bingo, walking and spending time with her grandchildren. She especially had a great love for her Lord.

Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Layman (1997) and sister, Berthol Parks.

She is survived by her children, Mike Layman, Joe Layman, Steve Layman, Judy (Jimmie) Thompson, Kay (Jerry Royse) Layman and Brenda Layman all of Owensboro, eight grandchildren, Keith Jones, Rick (Jill) Jones, Jason (Jamie) Dill, Justin Whitmer, Bradley Bellew, Crystal Stevens, Amy Whitmer, Shaylei Bellew, three step-grandchildren, Jeff Thompson, Scott Thompson, Tracy Leeper, one sister, Lucille (Don) Carlson of Aurora, ILL. And her beloved dog, Precious.

A special thanks to Hillcrest Healthcare Center Nursing Staff Units 2 and 3.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home with Tim Campbell officiating and burial to follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home and after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Western KY, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301 or to Alzheimer’s Association, Greater KY and Southern Indiana Chapter, Kaden Tower, 6100 Dutchmans LN STE 401, Louisville, KY 40205-3284. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
